Games today seem to strive on letting you play only 1 epic character. You don’t have to look far for an example, Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, Kratos from God of War, and even Mario has done enough to be raised into legendary status. That’s why a comfy change is always a more diverse set of characters, as opposed to just one. In a fairly small app game, this seems like it’s not much, but it does help. In essence, the few Subway Surfers characters are kind of just a palette swap from the original Hood, but it does keep you interested, along with the daily challenge and leveling up.
Meeting the Hooligans
Okay, so Hood is the default character on start up, and he’s pretty fun. He’s a young kid with his iconic little yellow hoodie and sneakers. Overall, he’s fun to watch and is kind of a reminder of the 90′s when kids loved wearing those hoodies.
Among the team, there’s probably only one girl. Tricky, is a cute little blonde, who dresses similarly to hood in that they both belong in the 90′s. From the ponytail, to the beenie, to the oversized glasses, everything about her looks like was taking out of those times. To unlock her, you’ll have to collect around 3 of her tokens, in the form of hats, from mystery boxes. She’s the 2nd character you’ll attain, as her requirements aren’t too high.
Fresh is the young hip hop resident of the game, and he likes to show that off through his giant Boombox. Despite the recurring theme of 90′s kids, he seems more of a throwback to late 80′s early 90′s hip hop and rap, from the giant hair that looks like Gerald’s from ‘Hey Arnold’, all the way to the jersey. To unlock him you’re going to have to work for it, which basically means 50 of his stereos to collect.
Here’s one that a lot of people will recognize as iconic because a lot people still try to emulate the look till today. Spike is the resident Rockstar, with the leather jacket and the cool guy stare. However, his hair looks a lot more like 70-80′s punk rock, along with the pink motif. To grab him, you’ll have to collect a whopping 200 guitars, which will inevitably keep you very busy.
Okay, Yutani is the weirdest character. Clad in what looks like a giant monster suit, with only his/her face showing, Yutani boasts the most unique look. In order to get Yutani, you’re going to have to clock in a lot of time. Over 500 aliens are the only things that can coax Yutani to join your little team of misfits.
For a little help on grabbing these Subway Surfer kids, there’s a glitch that you can use to increase the chances you get their character tokens. When you buy Mystery boxes, tap on them with two fingers, somehow it manages to increase the drops from the boxes. Weird but it is a great way to exploit the game. Another way is to buy the tokens with real money, but that kind of defeats the purpose
